Hacienda 1.5
JULY 8TH, 2026

Last week we said we were starting to think less about space and more about time. This week that thinking becomes a thing you can touch: your space now has a calendar.
Below is the usual build-side feature rundown for Hacienda 1.5.
Calendar
Every space can now keep time. Add the new Calendar app and start putting events on it — a listening session, a weekly call, a release date, a show. Events can be one-offs or recurring series (weekly rituals welcome), each occurrence can carry its own cover, and anyone in the space can mark themselves interested so you know who's showing up.
The calendar lives on your desktop as a live tile. This is the first cut of giving a space its own rhythm and rituals, and it's moving fast — expect it to grow week over week.
A new nav
The forest gets wayfinding. There's a new navigation across the app: your chats and apps are organized into clear sections, every view has its own URL, and the back button finally does what you expect.
Alongside it, a unified threads inbox — every thread you're part of, across all the chats in a space, in one list with unread counts and a mark-all-read. And on mobile, opening a chat room now takes you full-screen — the room gets the whole display, no stacked headers, just the conversation.
How's this feel to y'all? We're experimenting with more ways of making a space more instantly legible while retaining the full expressiveness of the Hacienda desktop.
Your audience
Your space can now hold people before they're members. A new Audience section in space settings gives you a real home for the people following your work: subscriber stats, the full list, CSV import to bring an existing mailing list with you, and export to take it anywhere.
On the other side, anyone can now subscribe to a space from its public page — no joining required. They get your broadcasts by email; membership can come later, or never.
And those broadcasts got a proper home of their own: space emails now send from a dedicated address at newsletter.dfos.com, with one-click unsubscribe built in. Your newsletter arrives looking like it's from you, not from a platform.
If you have a list ready to import or an existing audience, chat with us here in NCE or DM me, this feature is brand new and would love a few test subjects :)
Smaller things
The store settles in after last week's opening: orders now carry order numbers on receipts and emails, and both buyers and sellers get a proper order detail view — what was bought, what was paid, where it went. The Wallet was redesigned around Purchases and Balance, the Store around Items and Sales, and the Treasury got a matching refresh.
Writing got better everywhere too: every composer — posts, comments, chat — now shares the same rich text editor, with a toggle into markdown source mode when you want to see the bones. And thread replies now notify everyone in the thread, not just the person you replied to.
Fixes
A change worth calling out: posts are no longer public by default in open, free-to-join spaces. Early on, a post inherited its publicness from the space, join mode, and topic config — if the post was accessible to any outsider who joined, it was public. From now on a post is public only when you explicitly set its visibility to "Everyone". Posts in feeds with real public readership were grandfathered in to avoid breaking links.
And a sweep of repairs: dialog buttons on mobile no longer hide behind the browser toolbar, tile names wrap instead of colliding, the blog comment box stops overflowing on small screens, several store refund and inventory edge cases got closed, and stuck chat threads now heal themselves.
What's next
Everything above is in flight — the calendar and subscriptions especially are being actively iterated on right now, and the commerce work continues building on the store week over week.
And on the protocol side: some big pieces go live in the next few days — including a public explorer for everything on the open network and more in-app details on how your work, identity, and proof of its authenticity and provenance live beyond the walls of our platform.
More soon ✌️
