About formats, releasing, time, new forms....

As suggested, making this into a post (hope I'm in the right place? :))

I think DFOS and Metalabel definitely speak to the uneasy feelings I’ve had for years about presenting music/art, or anything creative really… I’ve realised I’ve totally shifted focus to being only about the process of doing it and then just presenting it somehow and moving on. I can wait for new forms to emerge or other ways of thinking about presenting it taking shape, because I’m still interested in what the thing will be, what it will “do” in 5 or 10 years time, if I’m somewhat satisfied with it and decided to release it, it’s not only made for now, it’s made to exist and keep existing perhaps in new contexts…
Of course I want people to listen to what I do but I want them to find it “in their own time”, sort of without massive bombing online about it, if possible…
It gets a bit comical/absurd when you are checking every five minutes for reactions to a slow 20-minute soundscape you’ve posted or catch yourself being jealous of other experimental musicians on instagram or whatever. “It”, social media, the attention economy and all of that seems to affect almost everyone to a degree that has surprised me… I’ve been lucky to get some cultural grants in Sweden the last few years so I haven’t had that much economic pressure as a freelancer, so perhaps that has helped to shift focus in this way, it’s more like I’m in it for the long run or something, my process over time is more interesting than what’s going on now with what I do, but in the meantime I might as well try to find the more healthy cultural directions that are growing out of this chaos… very thankful for this place!
