Increasing access with micro-transactions

What if readers/supporters could pay $5 or $10 into an account balance, then distribute that amount to authors/labels?

Here's how it could work for paid writing, but it can be adapted to music and visual art:

• Reader/supporter pays into an account balance, which they can now freely distribute in small amounts between creators/labels.
• Creator sets a minimum, e.g. $0.25 for a normal post or $0.50 on a longer one.
• Reader clicks a payment button and the amount is transferred from the reader's balance to the author's treasury.
• Reader is given access until the end of the month, or even permanently. This could be set by the author.
• At the end of the post, the reader can click pre-selected amounts to increase the amount they paid, e.g. $0.25, $0.50, $1.00. The "extra tip" amount is transferred from the reader's balance to the author's treasury.
• When a reader has spent the equivalent of a monthly subscription on posts from a single author/label, they are given free access for the rest of the month as though they were a full subscriber. The ability to give an additional tip per post remains.
• Advantage: readers can express additional gratitude for a post/essay/book, without the financial barrier of a higher (possibly unaffordable) monthly subscription tier.

It is an alternative solution to the Substack and Patreon problem of not being able to support multiple creators due to the cost of multiple subscriptions adding up. The idea addresses the same problem as Robert's post, but takes a different approach.
