NCE.DFOS Week 06

Sup yall, and welcome to your weekly overview of all things NCE and DFOS. Here's what's going on this week.

The big topic: Pioneer access coming

This is a major week for new product additions to DFOS. More on those in a moment. Most importantly to all of you: as of this Wednesday, we're going to grant our founding 2,000 DFOS members the ability to create your own spaces.

The product is ready. All of us are used to being in spaces together enough. The time has come.

For those of you who want to learn more about DFOS, we're going to be creating a week-long cohort experiment next week for folks who want to set up together and be our own mini-community.

We're going to send an email with the details. More on Wednesday.

The other big topic: New product launches this week

This is also a huge week for new product surface area, with two huge components coming online: money and groups.

In the next few days, subscriptions, treasuries, and money will enter the DFOS universe. The capabilities for all of these will steadily expand.

At the same time, we're introducing our new group architecture for within DFOS spaces: sub-communities within a DFOS with their feeds and chats, that can be paid or free, and that will allow a wider variety of experiences and information diets within spaces.

We're planning for both of these to be live before we grant everyone creation access on Wednesday.

Week 05 highlights

• We had a big conversation about what DFOS is becoming. A lot of great ideas and discussion in that thread.
• We shared the March product roadmap, which includes money, personalized desktops, email, and a lot more.
• We shared the origin story of SMILEY, the Metalabel avatar that comes from another planet and communicates in ALL CAPS.
• We shipped updated permissions and space architecture and design that allows each DFOS to be more custom.
• Robert continued to host Screenshot Saturdays and the Book Club.
• Chorus channel continues to churn out great memes upvoted by everyone. Keep it up!
• Spaces are growing. We turned on follows about ten days ago. Already there are 550 follows across the DFOS system, with 2,000 people here.

Week 06 headlines

• Money and groups shipping first half of this week. Will be tweaking as we go. A big step forward for the space.
• Creation access will get turned on for people who have already found their way into DFOS on Wednesday. Start playing around! We'll also be giving these folks a couple invites to share with someone else.
• SpaceCamp (name tbd), a cohort for spacerunners, will kick off next week.
• We're sharing the official A-Corp legislation later this week — a new type of business entity designed specifically for artists and creative communities. This is something we've been building toward for more than a year. Get a peek of the actual law here, and an annotated explanation here.
