NCE.DFOS Week 09: Money, email, and protocols
MARCH 30TH, 2026

Hi everyone, and welcome to week nine in the DFOS universe. What’s happening this week?
Money, public posts, and email notifications go live
The first big product update of the week: money, including subscriptions, paid access keys, one-time payments, and treasuries, will go online this week. Will save the details and screenshots for Brandon when the time comes later this week.
Public posts is something we’re pushing live imminently. Basically, we’re providing a way for public spaces with open access to make links to posts in their spaces readable/viewable outside their DFOS walls. We’re going to pair the content with clear calls to action to join the space to read more or comment. Look for a first draft of that going live this week.
Email notifications are another big one. This week we’re going to flip the switch on two notification emails: when someone DMs you or comments on a post/chat you’ve made, and our first experiment with a space admin being about to send an email of a post to their members. We’ll be using NCE as the guinea pig for this.
The waitlist opens up
Also this week: we’re going to start letting in the waitlist of 4,000+ people who’ve expressed interest in becoming part of DFOS. Later this week that email will go out. Expect to see things a bit busier around here.
Other smaller improvements coming
Including reordering the sidebar space list to put the space with most recent activity first; a global DM inbox that compiles messages across spaces; and some other experiments. Keeping the YOLO build energy going.
Antienshittification: the DFOS Protocol
Finally, this weekend I sent a personal email that walks through the DFOS Protocol, which empowers the whole DFOS universe, and allows for a post-platform existence. The folks in clear.txt have been all over this for a while. Excited to share our work with a wider audience.
The Best of DFOS
Great posts from across the forest this week:
🌲 How To Get Rich & Die Trying Pt 1: Yin and 양/兩 — Vinny in clear.txt opens with the story of Larry Fink's best quarter ($130M), his worst quarter ($100M loss, 90 days later), and the system he built in response. Dense, surprising, and worth the read.
🌲 imajin - Day 53.— Ryan/VETEZE with a sharp dispatch on AI-assisted coding: "Autodev is a dopamine casino."The hits come faster now — close an issue, fix a bug, CI goes green — but the reward still comes from betting on yourself and winning. A nice corrective to the hype.
🌲 Sounds of the Forest — Season 2, Week 2 Mix: Movies & TV — Lena has been compiling the weekly Song of the Day picks from the Sounds space into continuous crossfaded mixes on Mixcloud. This week's theme: Movies & TV. Five songs, one mix, live now. It's a really beautiful community creative output — check it out.
🌲 Calling All Callers — Peripheral Forms Open Call — Justice at Peripheral Forms has launched an open call for a collective experiment in aesthetic resistance to "slopulism." Works produced will become a Metalabel release. Deadline is April 21. If this sounds like your thing, apply — the full call is at peripheralforms.com/open_call.html.
🌲 Decentralize America: The case for cities that don't need Washington — Elle Griffin in Elysian Collective, part of her 11-part "Let Cities Build Utopia" series. She makes a detailed case for city-level self-governance drawing on models from around the world. For anyone thinking about distributed civic infrastructure — which feels like a lot of us — it's a rich read.
🌲 The Institute for Artifact-ial Research and Development— Justice (also in NCE) shares a year-long project: a fictional research facility studying information viruses, institutional breakdown, and autonomous systems. Dispatches written as field reports. Strange and compelling worldbuilding.
Ask us anything
Also: if you haven't dropped into the Ask Us Anything thread, it's at 31 comments and very much open. DFOS, A-Corps, Metalabel, NCE — anything goes.
More soon.
