Back in the 1600s, London had these coffeehouses they called "penny universities" — you paid a penny for coffee and could sit all day arguing with anyone. No appointments, no curation, just whoever showed up. Merchants next to poets next to scientists. They were smoky, loud, and kind of chaotic. Authorities thought they were dangerous. And they were — the Enlightenment happened there. Newton was a regular at the Grecian on Fleet Street. The Principia got set in motion because Halley, Wren, and Hooke couldn't stop arguing about gravity at one of these places (Newton wasn't even there). Lloyd's of London started as deals scribbled at a coffeehouse. The London Stock Exchange grew out of another one. These weren't institutions that happened to serve coffee — they were coffee conversations that accidentally became institutions.

The internet was supposed to be that. The global penny university. And for a while it was early forums, BBS boards, blogs. Real random collision between strangers and ideas. Then algorithms took over, engagement metrics replaced conversation, and now every "third space" we have is either sanitized (Starbucks — headphones in, no talking to strangers), algorithmically curated (you only see people like you), or so structured there's no room for the messy, unplanned conversations that actually generate something new. Which is kind of why we're all here in the forest, right?

Coffeehouse is a space for coffee and caffeine culture what you're drinking, how you brew it, shops you love around the world, beans worth trying, the ritual and the history behind all of it and a space for whatever ideas come to mind while you're drinking it. Half-formed thoughts, rabbit holes, things you can't stop turning over. Share your pour-over and the idea that hit you mid-pour. Post your favorite cafe in Tokyo and the rabbit hole you fell into while sitting there.
